Power through Perimenopause!

(and beyond)

Take back control of those pesky hormones and start fully living again

 (Rather than just existing)

What happened to you?

Maybe you can’t quite pinpoint exactly when, but things changed. In your 30’s, life was better. Things were just well…..easier, before perimenopause.

Do you yearn for the time when you just felt ‘normal’ on a daily basis? The old you, that was confident, fun and full of energy. Are you fed up of waking up at 4am? Spending mornings feeling shattered and dragging yourself through your day with strong coffee.  Feeling like you are wading through treacle and just about meeting your basic obligations…but lacking joy in your life?

Perhaps you feel tearful or snappy, overwhelmed with anxiety or that your cotton wool brain just won’t function. Or unable to commit to social occasions because you are never sure how you are going to feel.

Maybe you are feeling bloated and sluggish and your expanding waistline means shopping for clothes no longer brings any comfort. You are trying to be healthy and eat more fruit but it just doesn’t feel the same as a snickers. The old ways you used to turn to, to lose a few pounds and get fitter, just don’t seem to work as they used to.

But you don’t want to accept it, you don’t want to believe that this is your life now.

You don’t have to.

If you feel like you have become a slave to your symptoms and you are missing out on the things you love, it really is time to take action.

Life is about so much more than ‘just getting through the day’. It’s about having the energy & vitality to choose freely how you spend your ‘off-duty’ time, despite perimenopause! To do the things that make you light up, with your favourite people, and work towards fulfilling your dreams. Or whatever your version of this is.

It’s not all about oestrogen and progesterone.

Although for many women, the path to menopause is a natural process, the struggle can be significant. The truth is that during this time of life, hormonal changes can often ‘shine a light’ on health problems that were previously just niggles.

Fluctuating and reducing oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels may bring some level of disruption by themselves. But setting this scenario in the landscape of other imbalanced hormones, especially stress hormones, can catapult symptoms to a whole other level. The systems of the body, after all, are all inter-connected. And so much of how we feel (physically and mentally) is regulated by our full complement of hormones – including sleep, appetite, energy, mood and sex drive.

Despite being very helpful for some women, this is why Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is not usually enough to help fully manage all of the symptoms a woman is experiencing.

What is needed during perimenopause

What is needed at this time is a systematic and comprehensive approach that seeks to naturally and holistically support all the systems of the body that are under pressure. Not a sticking plaster or a scattergun approach.

The Power through Perimenopause (and beyond) programme takes a 360-degree view of your health. It is designed to assist women in mid-life to naturally support the functioning of their body and to take the pressure off, rather than just targeting individual symptoms. This is not like any other menopause programme.

Regardless of whether you choose to take HRT or not, the good news is that there is still lots that you can do using nutrition and lifestyle changes to support you in managing your symptoms and your journey.

The programme includes a full supplement regime alongside Nutrition and Lifestyle support in a Group setting, delivered via a Facebook Group. Full details are below.

We start TBC (Preparation Week) with the full programme running for 4 weeks from TBC.

“All of the small changes have had such a big impact and none of them have felt restrictive or unrealistic.

I feel huge shifts in my energy levels, which has enabled me to live life more fully. I found you really easy to talk to and your suggestions have improved my health dramatically- both physically and mentally”

How will the ‘Power through Perimenopause’ programme work?

This course has been developed in response to demand for a more affordable, yet still comprehensive programme of support. It is run as a group programme in a specifically dedicated private Facebook group, for attendees of this programme only.

It is currently the best value way of working with me on a comprehensive programme. While not bespoke in the same way as my signature individual coaching packages, it does provide in-depth support around the topic of hormone balance and implementation support within the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I’m struggling with symptoms of potential hormone imbalance, don’t I just need Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?
You may well derive a range of benefits from taking HRT. If you feel that this is something you would like to do, your GP should be able to help you.

However HRT does not always help all women or help them enough to fully get on top of symptoms experienced. Many women still experience some undesirable symptoms while on HRT. This is because hormone imbalance is affected by many aspects of diet and lifestyle. All hormones work together and just replacing sex hormones (via HRT) is often not enough to rebalance the body.

Some women are unable to take HRT due to unacceptable risk levels or it being unsuitable for them, sometimes resulting in additional issues.

Regardless or not whether you take HRT, this programme will help to support your body and mind naturally and holistically and can be undertaken alongside HRT medication.

I no longer have much of a menstrual cycle or I am already post-menopausal. Can this programme still help me?
If you are still experiencing symptoms of potential hormone imbalance then yes! The programme is designed to support your body holistically but with a focus on those areas that are under more pressure at mid-life. It doesn’t matter whether you are still cycling or not, it is your symptoms that are important. If you are unsure whether you have are experiencing symptoms, check out this list of commonly experienced symptoms here: https://bit.ly/3MGolHq
I am already on HRT, will this programme be of benefit to me?
If you feel that you need some more specialised support to support your body naturally through this time, then Yes. It may be that HRT has helped you but you still have remaining symptoms. This programme is the perfect option to support you alongside. As with any medications you are taking, I will need to check that they are not contradicted alongside the supplement support provided in this programme.
Will the supplements suit me?
Targeted support for commonly experienced symptoms is provided alongside the programme (while we work on supporting the body holistically). The supplements provided are high quality with potent ingredients and are usually well tolerated.

There are 3 individual supplements (powder and capsules) to be taken daily during the course of the programme, with or after food. All products are suitable for vegetarians and do not contain any of the 14 major allergens listed in Annex II (1169/2011) of the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation. If you are vegan and would like to undertake the programme or have particular questions or concerns about the supplement programme, please discuss this during your initial 1-2-1 session to assess suitability. Full details of the supplement programme will be provided during the preparation week.

Will I be able to stick to the dietary plans?
This programme is about making changes to support your body and mind at this time of life. The more you can adhere to the programme, the more benefit you are likely to attain.

However, we all still have our lives to lead alongside undertaking any programme. Therefore a pragmatic approach may be needed to ensure that you are able to follow the programme as closely as your schedule and preferences allow.

For some, the way of eating proposed may be a long way from where you currently are. This is absolutely fine and it is important to know that the programme is about progress not perfection.

Specific ‘tried and tested’ recipes, shopping lists etc. are available to fully support you through this programme. There will also be lots of resources, practical ideas and mindset support provided in the dedicated Facebook group to help with the process of making changes.

If you have any particular concerns about changing your diet, please discuss this during your initial 1-2-1 session to assess suitability.

What food changes are required?
During the programme, we will be avoiding or reducing (depending on your preference):

  • Non-organic food (where possible)
  • Gluten
  • Dairy (except grass-fed butter)*
  • Red meat (except organic grass-fed beef / organ meat such as organic liver)
  • Fruit (except berries)
  • Refined sugar (sweets, cakes, biscuits, sugary drinks & snacks)
  • Processed carbohydrates (eg commercial cereal, oven chips etc.)
  • Processed foods (ready meals, fast food, convenience food)
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine (except dark chocolate, green tea)

*vegan alternative to be discussed if required.

Do I really need to give up coffee, cakes and alcohol?
Not if you don’t want to. But reducing items that you are consuming, that are not helpful to your current situation is encouraged.

Also do remember that ultimately, ‘if nothing changes, nothing changes’. Certainly, if you are consuming lots of the specific items listed above, then you will gain the most benefit from reducing these.

It is important to also remember that the programme is for 4 weeks. It is not about reducing or avoiding these things forever (unless you want to). But it is about providing a good foundation to manage your symptoms and current situation much better –  to take the pressure off your already overloaded systems and reset.

For you, it may also be about developing a different relationship with food and you may decide to continue some of the changes you have made longer-term, due to the results you experience.

I am going to a party/wedding/weekend away during the period the programme takes place. How will I manage this?
It is always easier to control what you eat within your home environment. If you have specific events coming up that will make managing your chosen version of the programme difficult, a compromise may be needed. It may be that you have specific times where you will eat outside of elements of your programme or you may decide to (temporarily) abandon it. Please seek support via the Facebook group to plan for such occasions. Be aware that most restaurants are now very amenable to making changes to dishes for dietary purposes.

If however, you have a full month of parties planned which will make things very difficult, it may be that you will not achieve the benefits you are looking for from the programme. In this scenario, it may be better to undertake the programme at a later date.
