'Healthy Happy Hormones'

Hello! I’m Michelle

A Registered Nutritional Therapist and health coach.

I specialise in helping people to ‘get their happy back’ because let’s face it – it’s hard to raise a smile when you’re so exhausted you can barely raise the cup to inhale your 4th coffee of the day – and it’s only 10am. Feeling desperately tired, stressed, or having regular tummy cramps, among other things, can all take their toll on your mood and leave you feeling like all the enjoyment has been sucked out of life.

The thing is, life can be tough. We are all on a journey and I believe, we owe it to ourselves to do the best we can with what we’ve been given. And one of the most important ways to do that, is to look after what we’ve been given – our body and our mind……………to treat ourselves kindly as we would with a small child or pet (woof!)

When you think about it, it’s incredible that most of us probably invest more time and money in the ‘health’ of our car – which we’ll keep for on average, 4 years, according to the RAC – than nurturing our lifelong and most important assets, our physical and mental health.

Like many people, I spent my earlier years working and socialising to the maximum and sleeping to the minimum. Struggling with hormone issues (extremely painful periods) from an early age, there was no investigation or diagnosis, I was just put on the pill which masked the problems for a while.

I gave little attention to what I ate, other than during the annual diet when I felt I needed to lose a few pounds. I didn’t really think about or understand anything about the magnificent power of food. It was only many years later after several acne breakouts and nasty bouts of food poisoning that I started to look for more natural solutions to manage my health. That’s finally when things started to improve.

Eventually, I retrained to be a Nutritional Therapist which has enabled me to combine my interest in health, love of food, research, and problem-solving skills – with the wish to help people to change their lives for the better 😊

In the beginning I felt like a bit of a charlatan as many of my contemporaries had a ‘Good Life’ style upbringing and recognized the value of broccoli from an early age. I was raised on pot noodles and wagon wheels and forced to eat one brussels sprout each Christmas.
But I think this background means I can relate strongly to what many of my clients are battling with. My clients often comment on my realistic, moderate, and non-judgmental style.

I caught on fast and was soon totally hooked on the power of food, nutrients and lifestyle medicine and their ability to change so dramatically how you feel. It’s all had such a significant impact on my own health and now I am passionate about helping others to do the same.

I have since also added health coaching skills into the mix. My previous work was with people struggling to overcome difficult experiences and behaviours (offending, mental health, and addictions) and I know how powerful coaching can be in making that difference.

Alongside my business I work part-time at a couple of GP practices, coaching patients to make lifestyle changes to improve their health. This is quite different to the more in-depth work I do with my private clients but I love to help people work through their barriers to change, take control of their health, and feel better.

These days, my own health is much better and I am much happier. Most of the time, I feel I have found a good balance between looking after myself and still enjoying wine and chocolate! After all, abstinence is a good thing that should always be practiced in moderation…so someone once said.

I don’t have all the answers and I’m a work in progress just like you. Food is a great joy to me and unfortunately (or fortunately!) being a nutritional therapist doesn’t come with super human powers to not want to eat cake!

In reality, looking after yourself is not a ‘one and done’, an item you can hurriedly tick off your ‘to do’ list with a red pen. Our bodies and minds naturally change over time and continue to be impacted by the things life throws at us. However, small, targeted actions can be really powerful in supporting how you feel and can be built upon over time. While making changes may not always be easy, don’t let that be your reason to stay stuck!

Live is for living, not just existing. So, if you are currently feeling like you are missing out on the things you love, due to the way you feel, then let’s have a conversation about how I can help you to change that.

Working With Me

We are just like plants really! Stick us in a some good quality soil (a positive environment) and nourish well with the right nutrients and plentiful hydration, depending on our needs. Provide resilience against toxins (support our detoxification and elimination) and other enemies (like stress). And give us a good quantity and quality of rest (yes, plants sleep too!). And just like plants, with a nourishing diet and lifestyle, our mind and body can do their best for us and we can thrive!
