Make the Most of Summer events without your health falling off track
BBQs, picnics & food festivals? Here's how to make the most of summer events and feel good in your body all season long 🌞🍓

There’s something about the great British summertime that invites celebration, even if the weather doesn’t always cooperate! From picnics in the park to bustling food festivals and impromptu garden BBQs, this season is packed with opportunities to enjoy delicious food and drink in good company.

But if you’re someone who’s focused on managing specific health-related symptoms, it can be easy to fall off track when every weekend brings a new food-focused event.

The Summer Social Dilemma

It’s easy to fall into a cycle of too much sugar, too much booze and not enough real nourishment. That fizzy rosé and burger might feel like a treat in the moment, but when it’s followed by bloating, brain fog or a disrupted night’s sleep, it doesn’t feel so festive after all.

So how can you make the most of summer without sacrificing how you feel?

Food At Home

Here Are Some Deliciously Doable Ideas:

For Picnics:

  • Pack protein-rich salads with lentils, quinoa, eggs or grilled chicken
  • Bring hydrating snacks like watermelon chunks, cucumber sticks and berries
  • Try homemade dips like beetroot hummus or herby yoghurt to add flavour without heaviness

For BBQs:

  • Marinate fish or chicken with lemon, herbs and olive oil for a fresh twist
  • Grill veggies like peppers, courgettes and mushrooms for fibre-rich sides
  • Offer sparkling water with lime or cucumber as a cooling alternative to sugary drinks

For Food Shows and Events:

  • Eat a nourishing meal beforehand so you’re not overly tempted by every deep-fried sample
  • Stay hydrated throughout the day (a reusable bottle is your best friend!)
  • Choose one or two treats to enjoy mindfully, savour the experience
