Stay cool & feel energised in the summer months with my simple hydration tips
Tired, foggy, or sluggish in the heat? 💦 These hydration tips for summer will keep you energised, cool & focused all day long 🌞

Hydration isn’t just about drinking more water. It’s about helping your body feel balanced, focused and energised, especially during the summer when warmer weather and longer days can take their toll.

If you often find yourself tired, headachy or struggling to concentrate in the heat, it might be more than just the sunshine. Dehydration can sneak up on you, and it affects everything from your mood to your sleep.

Our cells can deal with a little dehydration but if you are regularly not drinking enough fluids, many functions of the body can begin to suffer.

Hydrating Body

Here are my favourite hydration tips to keep you cool, calm and nourished all summer long:

  1. Start Your Day Hydrated

Before your coffee or tea, start the morning with a glass of water, bonus points if you add a slice of lemon or pinch of sea salt for extra minerals.

  2. Eat Your Water

Fruits and vegetables like cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, and lettuce are naturally hydrating. Add them to your meals and snacks to boost your fluid intake without even trying.

  3. Keep a Refillable Bottle Close

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the biggest difference. A visible, easy-to-carry water bottle serves as a constant reminder to sip throughout the day.

  4. Sip, Don’t Guzzle

Drinking too much water all at once can overwhelm your system. Aim for small, steady sips to stay consistently hydrated.

  5. Infuse for Flavour

If plain water doesn’t excite you, infuse it with fresh herbs (like mint or basil), citrus slices or berries. It’s a refreshing way to stay hydrated without reaching for fizzy drinks.

  6. Watch the Dehydrators

Coffee, alcohol and sugary drinks can dehydrate you, especially when paired with sun exposure. For every cup of coffee or glass of wine, match it with a glass of water.

  7. Think Beyond Water

Herbal teas, coconut water and watered-down smoothies can all contribute to your hydration, especially if you’re active or spending lots of time outdoors.

Hydrating Drinks

How Much Water Should You Be Drinking in Summer?

A good general guide is around 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day, but in hot weather or if you’re exercising, you may need more. Listen to your body, and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. If you’re sweating more than usual, consider increasing your intake accordingly.

How to Know if You’re Hydrated Enough

A simple way to check your hydration is by looking at the colour of your urine. Aim for a pale, straw-like yellow. If it’s dark, it’s a sign you may need to drink more.

Keep in mind that supplements or certain foods can affect urine colour, but as a general rule, lighter is better when it comes to hydration.

Hydration Is the Foundation

Feeling sluggish, foggy or restless? Hydration could be the missing link.

If you want to stay on top of your energy, mood and sleep this summer, hydration is a great place to start.
