What to Eat in the Heat. Energising Foods to Keep You Cool, Calm and Nourished This Summer
Hot weather? Cool, energising meals don’t have to be boring. Discover what to eat in the heat to stay nourished & focused!

When the temperature soars, our appetites often dip. And yet, many of us still find ourselves reaching for quick carbs, salty snacks or endless iced coffees to power through the day.

Sound familiar?

Summer eating can be tricky. You want meals that are light, refreshing and simple — but you also need them to support your energy, mood and sleep. And let’s be honest, there are only so many plain salads one person can eat.

So what should you eat in the heat?

The Summer Struggle: Cool Meals, Warm Bodies

Your body works harder in hot weather to maintain a healthy core temperature. That means digestion can slow down, and heavy meals feel like a slog. But skimping on food or surviving on fruit and crackers can leave you foggy-headed, and even more tired than before.

Instead, focus on meals that are:

  • Hydrating (think cucumber, melon, courgette, leafy greens)
  • Easy to digest (lightly cooked veg, grilled fish, lentils)
  • Cooling but satisfying (like herby quinoa bowls, cold soups, or rice-paper rolls)

And yes, you can absolutely still eat warming proteins like eggs, chicken or salmon — it’s all about how you prepare them.

Real-Life scenarios

Clients often tell me that their summer eating has become more chaotic and carb-heavy. This is sometimes a ‘side-effect’ from having less of a routine and more social events. Eating this way can leave you feeling constantly tired, struggling with sleep, with your blood sugar and moods “all over the place”. In summer, the answer generally isn’t more discipline—but a bit of structure and some simple ideas tailored to hot days can be super-helpful.

Building balanced summer plates with refreshing ingredients like watermelon, mint, grilled halloumi, and a good drizzle of olive oil can please the tastebuds, while also supporting your energy and mood.

The Good News? Eating Well in Summer Doesn’t Have to Be Boring

If you want:

  • Meals that keep you cool but grounded
  • Better energy and focus through the day
  • Fewer blood sugar crashes and salty snack cravings
  • Support for deeper, more restorative sleep

…then you’ll love what I’ve created for you.
